AR: Track Concept

Bedroom Wall (Banks, 2014)
  • Location: A dark, messy bedroom, with an unmade bed, broken lamp etc. Night time with streetlight coming in from the open curtains. A domestic scene is important to show the authenticity of the narrative described in the song.
  • Narrative: The lyrics describe the artist speaking directly to her partner, she wants to save their diminishing relationship. Banks' music video style does not include obvious narratives so instead I would imagine the video for this song would have a narrative fuzz that alludes to the fragile relationship with non-verbal language from the female actor begging at the more distant male actor.
  • Performance: Intercutting of the artist performing to the camera. Only the artist lip syncing, no instruments included as there is more of an electric sound that would not fit the presence of a piano etc. No dancing accept contemporary swaying, hand gestures and moving in sync with the music.
  • Concept: An invasive performance from the artist so that it appears that they are telling (singing) their story to the audience, also featuring scenes of the couple falling out to help illustrate the narrative.
  • Character: Female voice singing about a male (assuming) 'you' 'baby' so a man and woman appear in the video.
  • Costume: Little fetishism of women so dark baggy clothes.
  • Props: The lyric 'write it on your bedroom wall' would suggest that at some point a wall and the devices used for writing on it are shown.
  • Lighting: Soft feminine light, and strong shadows casting across the artist face to give some idea of their absence from the audience.
  • Colour: Black and white or dull neutral colours, washed pinks and purples for femininity.
  • Post production: Slow motion and montage.
  • Camera:  Close up, arty images showing depth of field like the rain hitting the pavement outside the bedroom window. Mid-close up shots of the artist in one third of the frame. No long shots.
