CB: Conceptual Inspiration

Shower (Becky G, 2014)

This music video is a fairly independent production from the little use of actors and props which feature in it, so seen as we are also on a low budget to produce our music video I felt this was a good example for us to look at.

I like the CU shots of cosmetic objects which look very effective in the way they have been positioned, whilst establishing the tone of the video being aimed at girls. This is something which is easily replicable to us, especially as we are an all girl group performing to a solo female artist.

I also like the conceptual shots which have been included of the hanging plastic lips and eyeball, which when held up to the actors looks arty and fun.

Although the change in lighting from daylight to night time is very basic, the use of fairy lights and sparklers is effective in creating a realistic ordinary look.

I really love how the camera follows the artist as she lays down on the pool side in a 90 degree angle, it makes the frame of shot more visually interesting whilst positioning her centre frame. This can be questioned as unconventional of a music video with directors normally adopting the use of the rule of thirds, as the corners of a frame are where an audiences eyes tend to wander.

The reflection of the shot with swimmers passing by in the pool also provides visual interest for the audience, as it acts as a mirror in tricking the audience into thinking we are looking into a mirror.

Finally, the CU shots of the artists mouth miming the lyrics of the song is something we could incorporate into our music video.
