Group: Concept Development

Lyrics

Do the walk of shame in your best dress,

put your hands in the air,

even though I'm still sleeping.

Paint the roads on these walls,

just to feel like I'm going places.

Join the rest of the world,

in the dome of the new morning.

For the first verse of the song we could have mostly performance shots within it, as the lyrics
can be amplified through the actions of actors in the video. For example, for the opening line we could have a girl walking down an abandoned street early in the morning, with make up smeared from the night before as she performs the 'walk of shame'. This would connote to the audience that she had a drunken one night stand and is facing the consequences of it, as she is forced to think about her actions on the way home. We could also incorporate some conceptual shots with lyrics such as 'paint' allowing us to possibly throw paint mid air and slow it down to conform to a dismal mood we are aiming to create. Furthermore, we could include shots of road signs and street lights to signify the actor 'going places'.

Strange eyes wandering,

the night has come.

We're all under the ground,

can't be found.

In this verse we could place the main focus on the actor by doing a MCU, with a slightly distorted blurred background behind her which is sped up to imply the eyes 'wandering'. We could take this shot in the evening when its slightly dark and have the actor appear under a street light, to highlight her facial expression and add to the theme of not fitting in.

Night owls early birds,

why am I looking like the I don't care's [?]

Save me, save me,

go underneath the ground.

Wild fire's singing birds,

[?] like I'm wet for words

Save me, save me,

go underneath the ground.

For the chorus we could begin by having a mixture of performance/conceptual shots, with actors wearing animal masks to communicate they are 'animals' in the way they behave. To enhance this concept we could have the actors dancing carelessly in a field, which will highlight an amplified representation of the lyrics 'I don't care'. This will also illustrate how teenagers especially are lost in the world and therefore turn to nature as comfort because this is where they think they fit in. For the conceptual shots we could include stills of objects related to nature such as a plastic bird or stuffed animal toys, so that the visuals are still linking to the lyrics however are creating a distorted image of it. Then, for the 'save me, save me' lyrics we could have the actor miming them to give the effect that they are directly addressing the audience for help.

Let the young hearts fool around, break away,

they make mistakes, and live for them.

Let the fire in the city burn,

wanna feel, feel the endings warming.

This verse could be performance for the first two lines with the lyrics 'young hearts' being representative of teenagers in love and conforming to anti-authoritarian acts which form the 'mistakes'. The last two lines are very careless and could be based around the actor drowning their sorrows in a bath tub, wishing the world away.

Strange eyes wandering,

the night has come.

We're all under the ground,

                                                                   can't be found.

This verse could have some BCU's of the actor miming the lyrics whilst cutting in between with performance of dancing in a field.
However, the last line could portray the actor fading into the dark connoting the 'cant be found 'lyrics.

Night owls early birds,

bright eyes looking like the I don't care's.

Save me, save me,

go underneath the ground.

Wild fire's singing birds,

[?] like I'm wet for words

Save me, save me,

                                                          go underneath the ground.

For the second chorus in a song we can present the contrast between it being 'night' and 'day' by the use of camera movement. For example, we could show the actor falling asleep outside in a dirty field by moving the camera along with her action of falling to one side. Then we could cut to the actor waking up in a bedroom all refreshed and follow her movement as she gets up. This would demonstrate an alter ego that all teenagers possess both at home and when they are out partying, being two different people. To emphasise the point of feeling as low as the ground, we could get a birds eye view shot of the actor lying in a field helplessly as she looks to the sky for redemption. Following on from this shot, we could have a CU of the actor looking to the side in order to capture her facial expressions of lost hope.
